After almost ten years, it was high time for a new logo. Or at least a “modernized” one. The power button made of 0 and 1 stays, and so do the light and dark petrol colors. This time, though, it comes as a scalable vector graphic. In my view, that’s a must these days if a logo is supposed to look good across the whole range of different displays.
Solder pads and circuit traces instead of arrows
The old logo had arrows. I have to be honest: I can no longer piece together what exactly I was thinking ten years ago. It was probably something about change or constant renewal.
The circular arrows have now turned into circuit traces, with two solder pads on the left and right acting as contacts. Fitting for all the bits and bytes that get sent across them as current switching on and off.
A fresh start?
To be honest, things have gotten pretty quiet around here. My last post, about rsync and the trailing slash (in German), dates back to April 2024. And yet Bitpage quietly had a milestone birthday this year: the oldest post on this blog is from April 2006. 20 years of tech blogging is half an eternity on the internet. Okay, it wasn’t always a tech blog. It started out as my personal homepage, and for a long time it was a PC help forum with quite a few active members.
For me, the new logo is my attempt at firing the starting gun to bring more life back into this place. Behind the scenes, I’ve already done a thorough sweep. Back in 2013, I still called myself a true WordPress plugin junkie (in German). Quite a bit of that collecting habit was still lying around, but now it’s gone for good. Bitpage should feel noticeably snappier. For everyone who wants the details, here’s the changelog:
bitpage.de v2.0 in October 2026
+ new logo as a vector graphic (SVG)
+ new favicon: just the symbol, no lettering
+ WordPress, theme and plugins updated
+ page cache for faster loading times
~ multilingual setup: WPML replaced by Polylang
- old and insecure plugins removed (listing them here would be too embarrassing)
I’ll skip the big promises this time. In my resolutions post for 2015 (in German), I had already set myself quite a few goals. ;-) But there will be new posts again, on the topics Bitpage has always stood for: how-tos, hands-on reports and my take on technology in everyday life. Whether how-tos are still really needed in the age of AI remains to be seen. Despite AI, though, Bitpage still gets organic traffic to its how-to posts.
How do you like the new logo? I’m looking forward to your comments!
